Rite of Christian Initiation
Baptism or Reception into the church for children over the age of six
We welcome childTwo of our students celebrated the Rite of Election with Bishop Rassas on their way to receiving the sacraments at Easter, 2017.ren of school age to prepare for full initiation into the church with the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. These are celebrated each year at the Easter Vigil - the Saturday night before Easter Sunday.
We can also help students prepare to be received into the Catholic church if they were baptized in another Christian denomination.
There is a two year preparation process (as there is for any sacrament). In the first year, students are placed on grade level, so that they can begin to integrate with their peers in learning the faith.
In the second year, they continue on grade level. During this year, they meet at additional times to prepare for the rites and sacraments. This preparation depends on the age level of the students, which varies each year.
While the students are fully initiated (baptized, confirmed and receive Eucharist), it is expected that they continue to come to class with their peers to deepen their understanding of the faith. When the eighth graders are confirmed, they may opt to receive a special blessing from the bishop at that time.
